Interior DuctworkThe International Energy Conservation Code or IECC requires that interior supply and return ducts be insulated under most conditions. Other ducts such as outside air intakes, energy recovery ducts, and ducts adjacent to exterior openings are often insulated as well. While most ducts are insulated for energy conservation purposes, condensation control, personnel protection, and parasitic heat gain are other reasons for insulation requirements.
Flexible fiberglass wraps with FSK or Foil Skrim Kraft facing are the popular duct insulation products. In high traffic areas rigid fiberglass board products are a common substitute for flexible wraps. In addition to FSK facing, exterior jacketing such as aluminum, PVC, canvas, and others can be provided for additional protection of the insulation system. |
